Year 6 Heart Dissection
Year 6 children at Shawfield recently participated in a heart dissection as part of their science curriculum.
This hands-on activity was designed to enhance their understanding of the cardiovascular system and human anatomy.
Guided by Mrs Clayden, the children explored the heart's structure, including its chambers, valves, and arteries. This practical experience allowed them to see first-hand how blood circulates through the body.
The dissection aimed to spark interest in biology and science, encouraging children to apply their knowledge practically. Working in small groups, they developed critical thinking and teamwork skills.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with children expressing fascination and a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the heart. One child remarked, "It was amazing to see the inside of a real heart and understand how it works."
