Since September 2013 the Government has provided additional money for schools to go towards Physical Education (PE) in Primary Schools. The grant must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport in order to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

Swimming is part of the core curriculum and the school funds swimming lessons from the main delegated budget. Shawfield aims to help children make decisions about embracing a healthy lifestyle with school meals and encourages healthy eating. Shawfield also offers pupils a wide range of sports within school as part of the Physical Education curriculum area with the hope of encouraging a love of sport and continuing this into later life.
